Did you know?

The SaTFire Newsletter will feature a series called did you know?

Did you know that 20 servicemembers of the United States military commit suicide each day?

A study done in the year 2016 determined that at least 20 servicemembers of the United States military commit suicide each day on average.

That's on average nearly 1000 attempt suicide a day, It should be noted that these are the ones that are reported Which means that there are a great many more that are not documented. Which makes one think how many servicemembers throughout the world attempt suicide on a daily basis? Better yet, is War necessary?

Did you know that mothers of newborns are poisoning their children?

Did you know that mothers of newborns are unknowingly poisoning their children, but do not be alarmed, this is of necessity. A newborn's immune system has no defenses upon birth making them completely vulnerable, so Breast milk produced by the mothers in the days following childbirth has been found to contain over 700 varieties of bacteria—more than experts expected.

Researchers are still working to determine the beneficial biological function of these bacteria in the newborn’s digestive and immune systems. It is no doubt that these bacteria's are there to help the bodies immune defense system, more research is being done

Can a common cold really affect your driving?

Studies done since 2010 show that drivers who suffered from a cold be at the flu or the common cold were several times more likely to be involved in accidents, similar to the levels of drivers who were intoxicated by alcohol or other substances.

This is alarming, because often times drivers are pulled over by law enforcement for impairment, where simply a statement of "I have a cold" should suffice.

  • Which leads to a conundrum, does having a cold prohibited or preclude one from being able to drive?
  • Should there be restrictions on individuals who suffer from the common cold?
  • How many accidents have occurred as a result of an individual's abilities being impaired due to their suffering from the common cold?
  • And should insurance Rates be raised as a result of the possibility of a party being in an accident while suffering from a common cold?

"The sort of cognitive impairment you see from a common cold is in the same ballpark with the consumption of alcohol, working at night or working for prolonged hours," says Andrew Smith, PhD, a psychology professor at Cardiff University in Wales who has researched the cognitive effects of colds for more than 25 years. "Activities where safety is critical, like driving or operating dangerous machinery, may be impaired when you have a cold."

Researchers have explored not only the cognitive effects of colds but also how some people may be more or less susceptible to catching them. New research finds that parenthood and a positive outlook may help protect against colds, while stress can undermine the immune system's effectiveness in fighting off viruses.

A majestic animal

The elephant has many different species, but no one can doubt that this prehistoric animal is majestic in size, and character, and nature. This is the baby Huey of the animal kingdom, for elephants are mostly dorsal, they can be very protective of their young, and territory. There are herbivores, and they tend to remind humans of the unity factor, as they migrate and travel in packs, hurds, family units..
They can make you really feel small when standing next to them, the amount of power that they have made them a unique workforce in the past centuries and at present. A lot of scientific research is being done into this creature, attempting to duplicate its natural ability, power, and strength. Why not take a deeper look into this prehistoric animal is it on the verge of extinction?
